Alan Crane, M.B.A.

General Partner, Polaris Venture Partners (Boston)

Alan joined Polaris Venture Partners in 2002 and is a general partner focusing on building and investing in life sciences companies. He has served as founder and/or has played a significant role as CEO in building five Polaris companies. From 2006 to 2009, he served as founder and CEO of Cerulean Pharma. From 2002 to 2006, Alan was President and CEO of Momenta Pharmaceuticals. He joined Momenta as the fifth employee and built the company into a public company, creating an advanced and diversified pipeline, entering into two strategic collaborations with the Sandoz division of Novartis, and raising $275 million. Prior to Polaris, Alan was senior vice president of global corporate development at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, where he was responsible for leading Millennium's strategic partnering, mergers and acquisitions, and licensing activities, generating over $2 billion in partner funding and acquiring 19 development stage products. Alan received his B.A. summa cum laude, M.A., and M.B.A. all from Harvard University. Alan also attended Harvard Medical School from 1986 to 1988 before pursuing a business career.

 


 

Albert Friedberg, M.B.A.

President and CEO of Friedberg Mercantile Group

Mr. Friedberg has served as a director and Chairman of the Board of Vaccinex since the Company's inception. Mr. Friedberg is the CEO and President of Friedberg Mercantile Group, a Toronto-based commodities and investment management firm he founded in 1971. He served as Chairman of the Toronto Futures Exchange from March 1985 to June 1988. Mr. Friedberg was educated at Johns Hopkins University and Columbia University, where he received an M.B.A. in International Banking.

 


 

Bala Manian, Ph.D.

Founder of ReaMetrix

Dr. Manian is a serial entrepreneur having in the past 30 years founded (or co-founded) Quantum Dot Corporation, Surromed, Entigen, Biometric Imaging, Lumisys Inc., Molecular Dynamics, Digital Optics Corporation and, his latest venture, ReaMetrix. An expert in the design of electro-optical systems, Dr. Manian holds more than 30 patents, many of which have resulted in successful commercial products. He has a B.S. in Physics from the University of Madras, an M.S. in Applied Optics from the University of Rochester, and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Rochester and a board member of Biocon, Ltd. of Bangalore, India.

 


 

Gerald VanStrydonck, M.B.A.

CFO of Callfinity

Mr. VanStrydonck is the Chief Financial Officer of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. He spent 31 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was a Tax Partner and the Rochester Office Managing Partner. He has also served as CFO in the private sector for companies such as Essex Management, Sigma Marketing, Logical Images, and Callfinity. He received his M.B.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and an BBA from St. John Fisher College.


 

Maurice Zauderer, Ph.D.

Founder, President & Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Zauderer co-founded Vaccinex and has served as President, Chief Executive Officer and a director since its inception in 1997. He is the inventor of core technologies for construction of representative cDNA libraries in vaccinia virus and discovery of fully human monoclonal antibodies. Prior to founding Vaccinex, Dr. Zauderer had a distinguished academic career as a Professor at the University of Rochester Cancer Center and a member of the faculty in Biological Sciences at Columbia University. . Dr. Zauderer has served as an editor of the Journal of Immunology and a member of numerous peer review study sections at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Zauderer holds a Ph.D. in cell biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
