VACCINEX, INC. NAMES RAYMOND E. WATKINS AS VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS AND COMPANY OFFICER

Rochester, N.Y. August 14, 2001 Vaccinex, Inc. has appointed Raymond E. Watkins, 43, as Vice President of Operations and a Company Officer reporting to Dr. Maurice Zauderer, President and Chief Executive Officer. Ray has nearly 20 years of biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industry experience, serving in key leadership and senior operations management roles at Praxis Biologics (now Wyeth Vaccines), Life Technologies, Inc., and Invitrogen Corporation. Ray will provide senior leadership and be accountable for all operational aspects of the company, including manufacturing operations, logistics, facilities development, quality assurance, regulatory affairs and compliance, and other key operational and business functions.
