FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VACCINEX PRESENTS ACTIVMAB ANTIBODY SELECTION TECHNOLOGY AT THE 19TH ANNUAL IBC ANTIBODY ENGINEERING CONFERENCE.

Rochester, NY - December 8, 2008. Vaccinex, Inc. announced today that it has presented a summary of its proprietary ActivMAb antibody discovery technology at the 19th Annual IBC Antibody Engineering Conference in San Diego, CA. Utilizing a vaccinia virus based library technology; ActivMAb enables the efficient selection of fully functional IgG antibodies from highly diverse immunoglobulin gene libraries expressed in mammalian cells. This technology can be used either for de novo selection or for the robust conversion of a non-human antibody into a fully human antibody. This technology has the advantage of a built in selection for full length IgG antibodies that are efficiently expressed in mammalian cells. An additional advantage of this technology is that antibody selection is not restricted by self tolerance. Finally, antibodies from the Vaccinex libraries can be screened for binding to whole cells, enabling discovery of antibodies to proteins that cannot be readily purified. At the conference examples of using this technology to convert a high affinity mouse antibody into a panel of fully human antibodies with equivalent affinity and functional activity, and an example of the de novo selection of high affinity fully human antibodies against a novel breast cancer antigen were presented.
