FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VACCINEX PRESENTS RESULTS FROM PRECLINICAL STUDIES OF ANTI-CD100 MONOCLONAL ANTIBODY AT THE KEYSTONE SYMPOSIUM ON MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS.

Rochester, NY - January 26, 2009. Vaccinex, Inc. announced today that it has presented an update on its preclinical results with anti-CD100 Monoclonal Antibody at the Keystone Symposium on Multiple Sclerosis (Santa Fe, NM).

CD100 has also been shown to play an important role in the induction of B cell and T cell responses, and to induce growth cone collapse of neurons and to induce process extension collapse and apoptosis of oligodendrocytes. Because of its role in activation and/or survival of both lymphocytes and oligodendrocytes, neutralization of CD100 by monoclonal antibody could reduce the severity of demyelinating diseases through several different mechanisms. First, blocking CD100 could reduce the rate of disease relapse by reducing secondary immune responses to CNS antigens. Second, to the extent that CD100 mediates apoptotic death of oligodendrocytes in the CNS, blocking CD100 could reduce disease severity by reducing the loss of oligodendrocytes.

Using proprietary CD100 specific antibodies, Vaccinex has shown that CD100 neutralization inhibits antigen specific antibody responses in vivo and that treatment with anti-CD100 MAbs attenuates the severity of EAE in several mouse EAE models. Vaccinex has selected a human antibody specific for CD100. This antibody has been demonstrated to be safe and to have normal Pharmacokinetic properties in monkeys. This antibody is currently in IND directed preclinical development.
